Bass Sweeping Beginner Tips
An instructional video explaining the techniques I used to teach myself how to do Sweep Arpeggios on the bass and some rambling. If you want to get around the rambling: 1:34 Right Hand Technique 2:40 Muting the open strings 4:04 Rule of Odds and Evens 5:05 Metronome Disclaimer!! (This is much more serious than I make it out to be =P) 6:30 E minor grinding (Exorcise playing up and down the scale in arpeggios) + 3 Essential Shapes (I say essential because they’re what most of the beginner guitar 3 string arpeggio’s are 2nd inversion, which are what I explain)
Thanks alot this was actually a pretty helpful vid
Just wish I had a 6 string with 24 frets not a 21 fretted 5 string D=
an example right away would’ve been nice
@sobman Well, it’s like building a building. You don’t put the windows in, the desks, chairs, paintings, lights and everything first. No, you start with the foundation.
I was trying to start with a foundation.
Are you saying start off with showing what sweep arpeggio’s are? I figured anyone who was looking for this video would have an idea of the basic concept.
@kingxofxsuede
ya but it took me half the video to understand what i’m even going to be seeing.
thanx alot
thanxx allotttttttttttttttttttt
i started to use my thumb and index
so i can’t change coz i fell comfortable with it
but it was really helpful video…
@Humamibrahem Yeah, the right hand is really whatever is most comfortable. The picking pattern is whats really important.
Glad the video could be of help to you!
This is probably the most helpful video I’ve found on sweeping, because you’ve actually talked it through, I’m looking to learn sweeping because I been thinking a lot about joing a tech death metal band and thought this would be a useful thing to learn, the way you’ve explained the right hand technique has just made everything totally clear, so i just wanted to say a massive thanks for making this video and putting this out there!
@kingphilipx Hey fellow King XD
Glad to hear it was helpful. And thats what I was trying to do because a lot of people just made videos showing it or breezing over talking about it.
I had to do a 10 minute presentation in order to graduate high school so I had to be pretty thorough XD
Unfortunately I won’t be doing any follow up lessons probably because I hardly ever play electric any more and I might be starting to give private lessons (can’t give away all your secrets for free, right?)
@kingxofxsuede haha, totally did not realise the king at the start of both names.
I totally agree with the not giving away secrets for free, partly because i don’t think i’m good enough at explaing them to a) be of any help or b) not confuse people so much that it just puts them off hahe. But yeah once again this video is awesome, I don’t know if you’d be interested in watching the like 3…that i have, just some stuff i wrote for fun! But it’s like 02:46 here, so i’m off to sleep! Keep well!
very helpful video!! recommended for sure!!!
I’ve been searching youtube for a good bass sweeping lesson for like an hour now…and FINALLY I came across yours. Thank you very much for making this. Best one out there.
