Best Sweep Picking Licks

If you’re expecting some shit like Bring Me The HIV or Between The Ballsack And Me, then you might wanna step outside for the duration of the video, because only real shredders are featured here. (Note: I do not “hate” BTBAM, I just find them overrated beyond belief.) Also, I’m aware that some of these licks don’t consist of a noticeable amount of sweeping, but they do contain a little of it here and there. Even then, they’re still awesome. Codeon – “Sick From The Inside” (Sami Raatikainen) Necrophagist – “Foul Body Autopsy” (Muhammed Suicmez) Nevermore – “The Psalm Of Lydia” (Jeff Loomis) Mors Principium Est – “Two Steps Away” (Jarkko Kokko?) Mors Principium Est – “DIB” (Jori Haukio?)** Mors Principium Est – “The Lust Called Knowledge” (Jori Haukio?)** Mors Principium Est – “Life In Black” (Jori Haukio?)** Symphony X – “Set The World On Fire” (Michael Romeo) Scar Symmetry – “Holographic Universe” (Per Nilsson) **They don’t include who does what solo in their lyrics, so I’m a bit in the dark on this one. I’ve had to rely on the handful of live videos there are and guessing here.

Another band with great sweeps you should check out is Armageddon (Chris Amotts side project) – their first album is some excellent super technical melodeath with incredible guitar work by Chris…hard to find, but thats why we have the internet.

Also…Michael Romeos best actual sweep picking is the intro of “Smoke & Mirrors” imo, but “Set the World…” is also great…Romeo is more known for arpeggio tapping than sweeping though.

I was gonna use Smoke & Mirrors, but I don’t have that album (this is also the reason I didn’t include Wintersun and Cacophony; I didn’t think about downloading samples).

@PanteraMetalGh per nilsson is a guitar god period. His solos are just so tasty and sick yet melodic. Just a great combination.
