Guitar Help on Sweep Arpeggios?
I seem to be having problems getting them just right. I love to play all sorts of genres on guitar, so I think arpeggios are something I should probably learn.
Can someone please give me some pointers. I can’t get them clean and I think it’s 25% my left hand and 75% my picking hand.
I have been playing…
acoustic : 5 years (mostly chords and simple fingerpicking)
and
electric: about 2-3 years. my fingers are fast enough to play a lot of things. but I can’t sync them up with my picking hand while attempting arrpeggios and they also come out pretty dirty. (a lot of noise, but not much anymore)
I also already know
tapping
alternate picking
alternaTIVE picking
a bit of string skipping
I know this may sound trite, but the only way to get good
(at anything) is to practice. I’d be in a better position to help,
if I could see what you’re doing, but that’s not possible here.
Maybe, you’re trying to go too fast. Take your time.
Go as slow as you need to, to get it right. Speed will come naturally
with practice. Start with simple 3-string arpeggios first.
Using the 1, 2 and 3 strings, go slowly, 3, 2, 1, 2, 3, 2, 1, etc.
alternating up and down motions with your pick.
Then try changing chords while maintaining that picking pattern.
(down, 3,2,1, up 2, 3, down 2, 1, up 2, 3, etc.).
The important thing is to take your time, don’t try to go too fast
too soon. It’ll come around if you keep at it.
How long are u playing and how well do u play. U should forget sweep picking for some time if u are not able to learn it because u actually sweep the strings and u will tend to use this technique always and many a times go wrong playing. Never learn wrong since its hard to change it. If u are not able to cordinate both the hands leave it and go on to do some metal covers or do some covers of joe satriani. I reccommend u go to a tutor to learn this technique since it is from the hardest techniques and cannot be easily learnt from internet.
