How Do You Do Sweep Picking?

does anyone have any tips to mastering the technique for guitar called sweep picking?

I’ve looked at some sights and cannot find any good instructions and am too poor to afford lessons, so if anyone knows what to do please help.

Let the pick fall from string to string, like strumming a chord. Do not seperate the pick notes. You need to mute each string with the fret hand immediatly after picking it by lightly lifting or ‘rolling’ your finger to keep the notes from bleeding together and sounding like a chord.

Sweep Picking is a technique used while playing broken up chords in different positions on the fret board called Arpeggios.

First you will want to learn all your chords and how to break them up on different parts of the fret board and learn your arpeggios.

Arpeggios are played as single note chords. as you play the note you are using your pick as a guide to quickly touch the note as you initiate each note in the arpeggio.

Thank of sweep picking like if you were painting a fence with a regular size paint brush. Up and down strokes quickly. you do the same thing with your pick as you maneuver your fret board fingers on the notes of the arpeggios. Learn String Raking first learn to do little Rakes with 3 string arpeggios then move up to the more technical Sweep Picking

      Something like this: pick, hammer-on, pick, hammer-on, pick hammer-on, pick, hammer-on, pick, hammer-on, pick hammer-on, pull-off, pick, pull-off, pick, pull-off, pick, pull-off, pick, pull-off, pick, pull-off…

Sweep picking is very difficult and there isn’t really a shortcut to learning how to. I’d say the only way is about 60 hours of sweep picking practice.

Turn off the computer and turn the amp on!

you transform yourself into a shredding god like john petrucci, paul waggoner, or jason becker. thats prob the simplest way since its the most complex technique on guitar.

i really have nothing else to add, these guys above me know what they are doing. good luck, and if you master that then you can start sweep-tapping!
