I Still Cant Sweep Pick Dammit?
i have been playing guitar for 17 years, i can pick up on anything but solos. i am very experienced but to this day i cant sweep pick. i have looked at tabs.. i have watched people play slow.. i can play very fast with my eyes shut, in the dark u name it.. but i just cant sweep pick for shit.. all of my guitars and equipment got stolen right when i got out of the military.. including my cherished 79′ Dean ML. but i dont know if there is a point in spending the money to get another axe if i put the effort into learning if i cant get it down.. i know cant is not good to say but.. 17 years!! yet i have never taken a lesson.. someone help me.. if you think you can .. somehow
get it out of your head that it is hard first of all. it’s an easy technique. they are just arpeggios, learn how to play arpeggios (chords one note at a time) and learn the different patters, play them ascending then descending. the technique that you need to learn to sweep is ‘rolling’ the ability to roll your finger off of one string and go to the next. also make sure you’re right hand palm stops any extra noise that occurs when you do pull your finger off the string ( not palm muting, but stopping the noise completely)
also practice the up down pattern w/ just your picking hand without even playing the patterns, then slowly put it together.
