If I Spen About Five Hours a Day, How Long Should It Take Me to Learn How to Sweep Pick?

Also, how exactly do I "finger roll" to mute the open string sounds? How should I position my fingers? Parallel to the fret or sticking straight into the fretboard?

The real trick to getting sweep picking is using a metronome and starting off at a slow deliberate tempo and try to increase the tempo by one notch per day. One notch is barely noticeable but increasing one notch per day for 30 days is a considerable amount. Using this method you should be able to get sweep picking down in a month or so. By starting slow you will learn to move your fingers correctly to eliminate open string noise as well learning the correct finger positioning. Remember that speed is a by-product of accuracy and the best way to develop accuracy is with a metronome.

Well it depends on how quick you take to things. But, if you practiced sweeping and only sweeping for 5 hours a day and you picked things up relatively quickly it would probably take a month to start getting god at it. I don’t really work on it so it has taken me like a year to start getting good. You finger roll by shifting the pressure of you finger to different strings. You don’t position your fingers you just get ready for what you are about to do.

I agree with gtarczar. HOWEVER, i think for you to get really good at sweeps it will take At least two and a half months. And use the metronome like gtarczar said but you would have to just sit and sweep for about an hour straight NONSTOP. Good Luck!
