Legato Lesson – How to Play Guitar Fast Lesson 1

www.freeguitarlessononline.co.uk Legato Lesson – How to play guitar fast lesson 1, very simple legato excersises to increase finger strength , dexterity and speed. How to play guitar fast part 1. LEGATO In musical notation the Italian word legato (literally meaning “tied together”) indicates that musical notes are played smoothly. A great way of playing fast is to learn to play legatoe style ‘al la sattriani’, basically you play through and arround scales, Here are three shapes that i find a very useful for learning legato and increasing finger strength and dexterity. Bascially When accending the shapes are picked once then the proceeding notes are hammered, then when decending the shapes are picked once the the proceeding notes are pulled off.It helps to learn to start with upwards picking and downwards picking so to keep everything balanced and equal in your picking technique. Its a very good idea to use a metronome when practising this technique as this will make for a very fluent sound. When played at high speed it can sound like the notes are ‘ bubbling’ and runs will sound far smoother sounding than when played staccatto where every note is picked. This technique requires a lot of patience to get up to speed and should be practised daily to keep fully fluent. Shape 1 frets 5-6-8 Shape 2 frets 5-7-8 Shape 3 frets 5-7-9

This is great. If I’m not mistaken, I believe that SRV played guitar left handed without changing the right handed setup. Just for your information, I am left handed, but I learned to play guitar right handed because I was told that I had to do so. Yet, I can still play guitar very fast with an unfamiliar feel.

Your a retard. It was Jimi Hendrix, not Stevie Ray Vaughan. SRV was right handed.

You are right oh great one, but you will notice that I said “if I’m not mistaken” as in I could be wrong. Would it be so difficult to say “actually you were close but” instead of name calling?

Sorry. I did not mean to offend. I was calling you a retard in the nicest possible way, sort of conversational-like.

i was wondering, when you are playing fast, how hard do you hit the strings, and do you bounce your fingers?have been trying to learn sanitarium, but cannot play fast solo,as i either do not sound the string enough,or i knacker my hand.thanks for your time!!!

yes youre right in effect they are bouncing and using the fingers strength to make the notes sound, hit the first note with plectrum and hammer/pull off the rest of the notes, this is HARD to do at first so dont give up straight away, strength and speed comes through regular practise and needs to be built up slowly over time, the best method if getting it sound good it practise with a metronome or against music….

one thing i noticed is that when i use some different effects the hammer on sound comes out alot louder. on clean tone i have the same problem as you, i dont get the sound i want, might be because of low quality guitars
