Sweep Picking (Guitar).. How Do You Do the Lefthand Rolling?
my picking hand is fine but my left hand is really sloppy and when i try to sweep, some unwanted notes ring out… plus i don’t get that rolling technique..
Sweep Picking – Sweep picking lesson – Arpeggios
Firstly you need to start slow and then build up speed.
To stop the unwanted ringing, make sure you are correctly muting the strings with your picking hand and lifting each fretting finger after each note is sounded (so dont hold it down).
Now, the rolling technique. This is used when you have to sweep consecutive notes of the same fret (across different strings of course). If you had to play a sweep that included 8th fret g string, 8th fret b string, and 8th fret e string – you would use the rolling technique. To do this you would use the tip of your finger on the G-string, the middle of the fingerprint on the B-string, then the first knuckle on the E-string. Hence the ‘roll’ of the finger needed to perform this. It takes practise.
