Sweep Picking Runs Guitar

Intermediate to advanced guitar players: Is it okay to play the electric guitar without using a pick?
I’ve been playing for several years and almost never used a pick in my entire life. I find it uncomfortable to use a guitar pick, especially when doing pinch harmonics and sweeps and even as simple as tremolo picking. I just use my fingernails.
So my question is, do I really have to learn using a pick, I mean, if I don’t, will there be any consequences or difficulties in the long run?
@Bleed Metal – Yeah, I’ve been fingernail picking for 6 years of fruitless guitar playing, and I know it looks kind of awkward xD
@Name Goes Here – Huh, for me squealies are easier done without pick! Yeah of course I use the thumb
It could help you in the long road just to improve coordination skills, but it is not necessary. Mark Knopfler (of Dire Straits) doesn’t use a pick either, and he is an insane guitar player. It’s all personal preference. It could be your signature playing style!
