What Guitar Song Should I Practice?

Hi, i dont know what my current level is in guitar but i can play cliffs of dover by eric johnson. I cant sweep pick yet tho. I want to become a lead metal player. What specific songs should i practice? should i start sweep picking first or should i concentrate on speed picking?

If you plan to play lead, then you need to be practicing SCALES and you need to LEARN HOW TO READ MUSIC FIRST… I suspect you don’t even know the BASICS and that is the very FIRST thing a lead guitar player needs to know.

    Hi There,

Try playing this song first ( On Electrical or Acoustic Doesn’t Matter )

If you can play that with no problem then your a immediate guitar player.

If you want speed picking then
System Of A Down – Chop Suey
    Tenacious D – The Metal
System Of A Down – Physco
Gun And Roses – Sweet O Child Mine

    These will help you.

ive always wanted to learn cliffs of dover. its an awesome song. but seriously, if you want to know your level of guitar playing, you wouldnt know unless you know the basics. this also applies if you want to become a lead guitar player as well. scales is one of the things you need to master as well as the fretboard itself. as far as picking goes, start with each one, but i would start with the sweep picking first, then concentrate on speed

    hope this helps
