Why Am I Not Getting Better at Guitar?
I have been taking lessons for a little over a year now, and nothing I do can improve my guitar playing. I can’t sweep pick, tremolo pick, or anything like that. Why am I not getting better at guitar, and how can I?
I rarely practice, and the reason I don’t practice a lot is because I feel that I am not getting any better.
If you’ve been with the same guitar teacher for 1+ years and you’re not getting better, I would find a new one. If you practice even for 30 minutes a day you will get better, and if your are using good technique and aren’t developing bad habits you should be able to gain more accuracy and speed.
I used to think the same thing, then, I started practicing more. Instead of practicing 15 – 20 minutes, I started practicing for 30 minutes and it seemed kind of boring, then eventually I got to where I loved to play and would play for 2+ hours every day, and my speed, accuracy and technique improved faster than I had expected..
I promise that if you practice for 30 min through an hour a day, 7 days a week, you will get better. Seriously consider getting a new guitar teacher though if you have taken lessons for a year and cant sweep pick.
And, to the additional details, if you rarely practice you will never gte better, you HAVE, HAVE, HAVE to practice to get better.
/* how often are you practicing? practice makes perfect *\
you just have to believe homie
just chill out and pracice u WILL get better trust me i thought the same thing but its all good
Maybe it’s just not your calling.. try cooking or woodworking.. something different….. have you got great customer service skills??
hahh just kidding..
You’re probably just not practicing enough and hate having to do so constantly.. every day…..
****
you added you rarely practice…..
there’s your answer right there…..
you no longer have any motivation..
ps
practice makes perfect.. don’t give up if being an awesome guitarist is what you dream of…….
It was at least a couple of years (even WITH practice) before my son began to sound good on the guitar. He’s been playing ten years now. Sounds really good.
Don’t give up!
See, that’s your problem. If you don’t practice, you WON’T get better.
Just to let you know, Sweep picking is hard, so don’t get discouraged..
Just a pschycological problem that bothers your mind..Keep practicing and never turn into a pessimist..Have faith in yourself
well its all about loving what you are doing, if u dont enjoy doing it u wont get better, so just practise..practise, and practise. i was in the same dilema but after i got more interested in music i got a lot better in a short ammount of time, just try and set liek 20 mins a day to begin with and just build up on that , me when i was fully in2 it was playing 3-4 hours a day , well thats if u want quick improvement
hope this helps

keep trying. practice makes perfect.
Well if don’t practice how do you expect to get better? Work your @$$ off with the guitar if you want to get better.
well if yu dont practice yu r not gonna get anywhere…of course you know that. i hope lol jk all yu gotta do is be dedicated and want to do what yu r doing. i know its tough but if yu wanna get better then try to set a goal for yourself. like twice a week, three times it doesnt matter but stick with it and yu should see and improvement =]
HAVE FUN!!!!!
do not think it as a gutir playing think it as a way of showing the world and then try that ok
