Why Could the 80's Guitar Players Play So Well?

I am really into guitar, i am obsessed with it and i couldnt live without it but i just dont understand how to play like to 80′s guys like vito bratta, bill leverty, all the guys who were pretty much eddie van halen style but did their own thing. I practice scales, chords, arpeggios get as many books as i can, i dont have the money to pay for a college music theory course. My question i guess is what did they know in order to play the way they do? How could they play so well? I am trying but i just cant seem to be able to create music like they did.

Most people have heard this a million times, but the reason all incredible artists like The Beatles, Van Morrison, and all other artists with a great amount of skill got to be as good as they did was because of practice. When The Beatles first started out, they were in London working the night shift at a low-life club. Their hours went from 8:00 PM to 3:00 AM and that’s how long they had to play for. The amount of time The Beatles all played and practiced together all added up and easily escalated above 10,000 hours. This idea of having as many hours as you can under you belt truly pays off. This new book, ‘Outliers’, is all about stories of success. From The Beatles to racecar drivers, this book shows how they all did it, and how they all had their 10,000 hours or practice and it all completely payed off.
